DKV Seguros's challenge

DKV Seguros is part of Munich Re, one of the world's first reinsurers, and that means living up to the group's high expectations. One of them: training the whole workforce on the compliance content that matters to the group. And you know what that kind of training usually looks like: lots of text, very little spark.

DKV already knew that text-heavy traditional training wasn't going to work. In fact, one of its most successful projects had combined its internal HR strategy with the Manager’s Learning Pathway, online game-based courses on team management, time management, conflict resolution and negotiation. This time, the challenge was to turn compliance training into an effective, engaging learning process, under a new set of rules.

  • Mandatory training, when its previous game-based experiences had been voluntary
  • Reach every employee, whatever their profile or comfort with technology
  • A single training window, with no extensions
  • Make dry, technical content like the Code of Conduct engaging

The solution

DKV relied on Game Strategies' game-based learning methodology, with access to every educational video game on its platform. These customizable serious games are interactive, adaptable and 100% online: employees learn whenever and wherever they want, with just an internet connection and no need to be tech-savvy.

The format made the difference. The game's storytelling and gamification brought important but sometimes dry and technical information to life, such as the Munich Re Group's Code of Conduct. Compliance training stopped being a text you read because you have to and became an experience you play.

It launched in summer, in a single mandatory window for the whole workforce.

In their own words

The subject of compliance is something we see a lot in our day-to-day. There’s a difference between learning something and internalizing it, and participating in an initiative such as this focuses on the latter.

The results

What is usually a box-ticking exercise became a talking point. The training built excitement before it even started and, by the end, the Game Strategies platform was the topic of conversation across the company.

And the numbers back it up: in mandatory training with a single window and no extensions, DKV reached a 90% completion rate and a 98.6% recommendation rate, along with greater employee engagement. The company keeps betting on training approaches like this to foster learning, teamwork, digital transformation and change management.
