The University of Valladolid's challenge
At the University of Valladolid, faculty training has to work for very different people. Some lecturers still prefer traditional classroom training, while other groups have different interests and needs and want another way to learn.
Ruth Pinedo, Associate Professor with a PhD in Psychology, knew gamified learning well: she uses it with her own students at the Faculty of Education. The faculty training team saw it as a new methodology worth exploring with the lecturers themselves.
- Train a very diverse faculty with different interests and needs.
- Offer a real alternative to those who don't fit classroom training.
- Let each lecturer choose what they want to learn.
- Make getting started effortless, with no technical hurdles.
The solution
The university heard about Game Strategies by word of mouth: other universities already using it recommended it. That is how the platform became part of its faculty development program.
Since then, each lecturer picks the course they want from a catalog of over 70 video game courses that work as simulators. They step out of their usual context and daily routine and learn by playing. “It's not just playing,” Ruth points out: logging into a different platform is motivating, and lecturers come away feeling they have really learned something.
The platform is simple: you don't need advanced skills of any kind to log in and take a course, so starting never feels like an effort. Behind it is the Game Strategies team, with ongoing support and dedicated contacts who answer any question quickly.

Many lecturers tell us it's a way to break the routine and play a little, but they really feel they are learning. It's not just playing.
It's an easy platform to use. You don't need advanced knowledge of anything to do the training, and that makes things much easier.
The support is very reliable. You can contact your support team or the people assigned to us about anything, and they're usually very quick to respond.
The results
The response has been positive since the first year, and faculty feedback is usually very good. A core group of lecturers loves this kind of training and, year after year, waits to see which new courses come out.
Something changed for the people who run the training too: both the team managing the platform and the lecturers using it feel very secure, because support is reliable and responds fast.
