Transmilenio's challenge

Transmilenio wanted its employees to internalise negotiation and conflict resolution skills and apply them at work.

That called for a different kind of training: not hours of reading to finish a course, and something that would encourage people wary of the unknown to take the first step.

  • Learn negotiation in a practical way.
  • Avoid hours of reading to finish a course.
  • Encourage people wary of the unknown to start.

The solution

Participants played Merchants: they become a merchant in Venice, in another period of history, and negotiate with different characters. The game is user-friendly and progresses in levels.

That way they practise what they learn, without hours of reading. They also work as a team, learning to share out tasks and make the most of each person's strengths.

The game is great fun and very user-friendly. You're a merchant in Venice, they place you in a period of history and have you negotiate with different people.

You're practising what you're learning, instead of spending hours reading until you finish the course.

The hard part is starting, because people fear the unknown. But as soon as you begin, you get involved in the game and want to move forward quickly.

The results

Participants describe a very effective teaching tool that helps them internalise negotiation and conflict resolution easily and apply it day to day.

Those who've tried it strongly recommend it: they say it builds skills for work and for life, and that once inside the game they want to keep going.
