It has caused me enormous frustration, immeasurable costs, and has worn down my team significantly.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After working with more than 5,000 corporate clients around the world, it\u2019s clear to me that I\u2019m not the only one with this problem. Hire the right salespeople<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-4ff601c elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"4ff601c\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Many times, poor recruitment is the cause of high turnover. Improve the quality and the \u201cfit\u201d of your hires, and you\u2019ll noticeably reduce turnover rates.<\/span><\/p><p>\u2705 <b>Define your ideal profile precisely:<\/b><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Define your ideal candidate profile with the same care and detail you use to define your ICP (Ideal Customer Profile).<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Don\u2019t just look for sales experience or experience in your industry.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Take into account soft skills, personal motivations, and cultural fit with your organization.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Establish a \u201cscoring\u201d system for each of the traits you\u2019re looking for in a candidate. And make sure your selection process is able to identify and quantify them.<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p>\u2705 <b>Perfect the recruitment process:<\/b><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Design a thorough process that clearly specifies what information needs to be gathered from each candidate at each step of the process.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Don\u2019t improvise during interviews. Prepare them well. Even if it seems like you don\u2019t have time for this, I assure you there\u2019s no better investment of your time.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Properly train everyone involved in the process. They should know what to look for, how to do it, and which tools to use. And they must understand how critical this process is for the organization.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Each step of the selection process should have its own well-defined structure, checklists, goals, evaluation system\u2026<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Design questionnaires, tests, simulations, role plays, assessment centers\u2026 whatever tools are necessary to detect the skills you\u2019re seeking.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hire slowly. Never make rushed decisions. Add one or two extra interviews for candidates you\u2019re about to hire. Those final, more relaxed interviews will give you the best insights.<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p>\u2705 <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><b>Detect early warning signs:<\/b><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Observe how the candidate behaves throughout the selection process, especially during the negotiation phase. At this stage, you\u2019ll clearly see the candidate\u2019s personality and main motivations.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">From the very beginning, clearly set expectations, both the candidate\u2019s and yours. Expectation management is key to controlling turnover. Be clear and transparent from the start, it will save you a lot of trouble.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Avoid candidates who are only looking for a salary.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Avoid people who change jobs every year.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Avoid candidates who don\u2019t fit your team\u2019s culture.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Avoid applicants who aren\u2019t \u201ccoachable\u201d.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you have doubts, don\u2019t hire the candidate.<\/span><\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-561c0bb elementor-invisible elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"561c0bb\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-settings=\"{&quot;_animation&quot;:&quot;fadeInUp&quot;}\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">\ud83d\ude80 2. Poor onboarding can lead a salesperson to leave before the trial period ends.<\/span><\/p><p>\u2705 <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><b>Invest in designing a good onboarding process:<\/b><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Design the onboarding process. You wouldn\u2019t believe how many sales teams don\u2019t have a well-defined and structured onboarding process.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Don\u2019t overwhelm them with information on day 1. Design a phased learning plan.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Combine different formats. Not everything should be face-to-face meetings or online info. Mix formats wisely to get the best results: in-person training sessions, online training, interviews, role plays, shadowing\u2026<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Use innovative formats that capture the attention of your salespeople and boost retention. You can\u2019t delegate this.<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p>\u2705 <b>Assign a mentor or buddy:<\/b><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An experienced salesperson can help newcomers adapt faster and reduce initial stress.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Assign someone on the team the task of introducing the newcomer to their colleagues, explaining how things work, and accompanying them during their first two weeks to help them feel comfortable and speed up the sense of belonging.<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p>\u2705 <b>Make sure your new salespeople get early wins:<\/b><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Provide qualified leads as early as possible.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Offer quick opportunities to build confidence and motivation in the newcomers.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Accompany them on their first sales and help them close.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Do everything you can to accelerate their first sale. Of course, you must track KPIs, but you should also dedicate time to identify obstacles, find areas for improvement and learning, clarify strategies, and push your salespeople to grow and develop.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Your team should feel they\u2019re learning and developing with you. They should believe you can help them grow and improve.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Remember: your job is to teach, remove obstacles, provide tools, and structure processes\/systems that help your team achieve their goals.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Learn how to coach. With some basic techniques, you can transform the way you influence your team.<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2705 <b>Culture of feedback and recognition:<\/b><\/span><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Give feedback constantly. Every time something is done well. Every time something is done poorly. You can\u2019t wait for the performance review to give your team feedback.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Learn how to give feedback properly. It\u2019s your main management tool.
